Consolvo

THE LINDBERGH KIDNAP

I

n 1932 the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh suffered the tragic abduction of his young son. It was headline news for weeks.  The boatyard owner John Hughes Curtis and some doubtful local conspirators claimed they had discovered that the child was being held on a boat up the coast. He tricked Lindbergh and the police to hand over a substantial ransom and then spend days at sea with the police on the  'Marcon'.  The weather was foul, Lindbergh was seasick and while at sea the hoax uncovered when the child was discovered buried in woods near Lindbergh's house.  Huge public embarassment for Consolvo and once more the boat was up for sale again.
